My career as a DJ inevitably lead to the recording studio. Working with Dan Nolan, Simon Noble, Nick Hussey and various other producers, I have been involved with many Remix / Production outfits, namely, VOID, REBOUND, THE HIGH SOCIETY, FOUNDATION, SOUND DESIGN and of course DJ Welly.
One of my most successful releases to date was recorded way back in 1991, when house music was a single umbrella, house was house, and the fragmentation which now splits dance music into many different genres was non-existent.
The track in question was Orcana by VOID. A classic in its day, a unique mix of dark moody strings, a throbbing bass line and sweeping melodies, glued together with a killer break beat made this a must have track.
Orcana came in two flavours; the first mix released early in 1991 (Welly's warehouse mix) of which there are only 1000 copies, was a deep, dark and raw offering. The second mix released in 1992 offered a more polished version of the track, joined by Simon Noble (one of the U.K''''s better producer / engineers) the track fulfilled its potential and went on to be a classic.
Another massive track for me was the unforgettable Rebound EP by Rebound. Released in 1994 on Manchester Underground Records, this EP featured three tacks; Make It Funky was the main tack on the EP, a progressive stomper which became an anthem of its day. The other two tracks, Love Is and Rock Da House were a mixture of funky U.S. style house grooves which complimented Make It Funky really well.
I have also completed a host a remixes for various artists. Two of the bigger remixes I have done are: - Who Can Make You Feel Good by the Bassheads, released on Deconstruction Records. This Void remix was a massive track in the early days of Life at Bowlers in Manchester, and also held the coveted title of Essential New Tune' on Pete Tong's Essential Selection on Radio 1.
Another massive remix (that also made the Essential New Tune spot on Radio 1) that I had the pleasure to work on was for the awesome gospel outfit from the U.S. that is: - The Sounds of Blackness. Nick Hussey and myself remixed the classic "Everyone's Gonna Be Alright" on AM:PM records. This piano led gospel house track was one of the highlights of my recording career.
During 1995-96 I worked exclusively with Dan Nolan, remixing a host of tracks for the Unique Distribution Company's umbrella of labels. These remixes were undertaken under the names High Society and Void.
More Rebound tracks followed in 1996/97, and a collaboration with the legendary DJ John J in 1998 under the name Armed and Dangerous saw the release of white label EP, another rare release.
In 2004 I released a new track on UNIT:E Records called Can't Get Enough, this was massive on the dance floors of the northwest and U.K., following on from there in 2004, was a remix for the same label, the second release on UNIT:E, Escape - Flying Away, featured a remix of mine.
In 2007, I produced some new House / Breaks tracks under the name "Paulo Gonzalez", with the track "Moving On" being released on Flawless Records UK.
I will be producing some new tracks from my new base in Brisbane, Australia, concentrating on my first love in dance music, Breaks/Beats and House.
Keep checking back for new material.
